The New Dish Project
The New Dish Project is a series that documents 30 days in the process of building a collection of individual tableware pieces from scratch in Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico in May 2015.
Having arrived back in New Mexico from New York, the shelves that held a fine working food photographer’s collection built over the years were 2000 miles away. In my new studio had no plates, flatware, cups, glasses — nothing. Beginning to build a new collection of dishes was a unique position to be in as an adult, but moreover, as a food photographer. For 30 days, I acquired a new piece every day and explored my beautiful new outdoor space, shooting outside throughout Old Town. As a prelude, I began with the Boy Scout jackknife (with corkscrew) that was always in my camera bag and had saved many an impromptu picnic. One of my favorite series, this personal project also allowed me to write a little bit about food photography philosophy.
